But when it comes to the history of the hobbits, and how exactly they came to be, Tolkien doesn't really offer any straight answers. Unlike the elves and men, who were directly created by Eru Illuvatar... and unlike ents, dwarves, and great eagles, which were made by Valar gods like Aule, Yavanna, and Manwe... the hobbits dont' have a particular creator. And since we know that Eru Illuvatar, the supreme being of Tolkien's mythos, has teh final say in all of creation... and he never said anything about hobbits... then that means the Shirefolk must have come about from a different, natural method. Today, we're going to investigate a fan theory that tries to explain this.
